My understanding of what yoga is:

Yoga, even though in today’s world seemingly a physical practice, actually deals with the nervous system as well as muscular system. Yoga is a holistic practice for one’s wellbeing.

Yoga is a tool to open the mind and body, bringing transformation. On the mat, we play with our limits and test our edges. We get to experience these physical and mental limits in different yoga poses, called asanas. We discover how we approach these limits and how we react when we reach them. We notice the changes in our breath as it holds a mirror to our inner workings.

Thus, it is a physical and mental practice for self-understanding through which we confront our limits and transcend them. Yoga helps us become aware of our physical and mental blocks, and when practiced consistently, it opens our binds and blockages, bringing physical and mental transformation. In my yoga sessions, I aim to share my own understanding and appreciation of yoga, which at its core is about ‘the on-going transformation of self’.

What I offer…

In the hour long session, we practice a sequence of asanas from simple to complex poses to prepare both the nervous and the muscular system. The sequences address each student’s special circumstances, physical states, and emotional needs. They are designed to help the students do the physical poses safely, keeping in mind the human anatomy and their personal physical needs and states. The sequences will also vary in their level of difficulty and also in the area of the body they focus on.

The sessions also include a mindfulness topic which I integrate to the session, and the asana yoga practice will be designed to bring awareness to that topic through bodily experience in the yoga poses.

I teach an hour long private one-on-one or group classes (up to 5 people) at the convenience of the student’s house or, if they prefer, at another desired location.

What you get out of it…

Yoga is a therapeutic tool to address physical problems as well as mental problems. A regular yoga practice helps to build resilience and cultivate awareness both at mental and physical level. Starting from the first session one can feel the benefits of the practice, which are a calmer mind, physical vitality, long and easy breathing, feeling whole, and at peace. If you practice yoga regularly you will experience the reflections of these in a deeper sense in your body, self and life.

On a physical level:  A regular consistent yoga practice helps retard aging. It gives you strength and flexibility for other physical activities. It enhances your looks, posture, skin and muscle tone, and it gives a sense of overall well-being.

On a mental level: A regular consistent yoga practice helps to increase the capacity of the nervous system to handle the day to day life. It helps one to be and stay present in the moment. It helps one become increasingly more aware of their own attitudes, and beliefs that form these attitudes; and eventually, through dedicated practice, one gains a more honest understanding of themselves.

Yoga has been called the “fountain of youth” because it offers health and vitality. Aging is inevitable but yoga certainly helps one mature with elegance, depth and richness.

Testimonials

“As an advanced practitioner, a certified instructor and an avid student, I cannot stress enough what a wonderful yoga teacher Seda is. There is something very distinctive about her way of teaching yoga, which I have not seen in any of the other yoga teachers; that is, her true devotion to the ancient teaching of yoga. She does not simply teach, but she makes yoga come alive in her own person. In other words, she embodies yoga with her entire being. I observe that this is an amazing inspiration for all of her students, for we see in her how yoga is extended off the mat to the world, and how life itself is a giant mat on which we practice how to live by the moral precepts of yoga. Seda, simply by being herself, reminds us that yoga is not just a physical activity, but a very deep teaching that transforms the very core of the person if one commits oneself to it. One can never doubt that yoga is the true calling of Seda, her life is perfectly aligned with yoga.”

“Due to Seda's background in psychology, her extensive training in Gestalt theory and coaching, and Ayurveda, her classes and workshops are far from being a sequence of physical movements. They are intellectually rich and satisfying reflecting her varied skills and her commitment to work with each of her students. Studying bodies and progress carefully, Seda can safely instruct her students to take the next step in physical movements. It is a combination of her expertise, her self-confidence, and her devotion that has been convincing for me personally to believe in her and move forward in my practice. The importance of rapport and trust cannot be overstated in the relationship between a yoga student and their teacher, and in this regard, Seda is unmatched. ”

“Seda’s sense of discipline, her hunger for self-improvement and her dedication to regular self-practice distinguishes her from other yoga instructors and makes her a yoga facilitator. Seda is a compassionate guide to whomever who’s willing to follow her to apply the core philosophy of yoga to everyday life. She can make the philosophy as well as the asana practice available to any student of any level. Her psychology background gives her a scientific, analytic platform to start building on. In her private sessions, Seda is more of a tireless student than a teacher, who will learn eagerly, and merge her knowledge from various disciplines to tailor a class just for the individual student. She is a careful and caring teacher, who will take no chances to ensure the safety and well-being of her student. She will discover her student’s ailment, be it physical or spiritual, and she will start tending to it without the student even noticing.”
